Inspired by Voltaire’s adage “Il faut cultiver notre jardin / We must cultivate our own garden,” WINTERGREEN brings together a body of new interconnected works by Theodora Allen, Math Bass, Mimi Lauter, Jennifer Rochlin, Nate Lewis, Amy Bessone, Paul Davies, Laurie Nye, Jae Ko, Merrick Adams, Rebecca Partridge and Jeremy Everett calling attention to self-refection, the changing of seasons and wider environmental consciousness.

With an interplay of line and volume, movement and solidity, the paintings and sculpture included indicate forces of nature: ocean tides, glaciers formed by the accumulation and compaction of snow on mountains, wildflowers, birds, living organisms, fertility, billowing clouds of smoke and above all—the complex relationship between technology and natural systems.

By displacing the human gaze, we aim to discover a plurality of ways to sense and mediate experiences that embrace the ecosystem. The works featured examine landscapes of varying states of growth and erosion through subtle traces of human presence on natural materials such as crystal, recycled paper or gum bichromate—all emphasizing an unwavering artistic commitment to engagement with our natural world.
