Stan Kaplan lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Stan has exhibited at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Fredericks Freiser Gallery, New York and Stems Gallery, Paris France, in addition to solo and group exhibitions at Mary Goldman Gallery, China Art Objects, Richard Telles Gallery and La Loma. He is currently the Program Director of Painting at Otis College of Art and Design.

Flowers have long served as a point of departure in Stan Kaplan's work–not as subjects to be depicted faithfully, but as forms that open onto broader explorations of landscape, abstraction, and all-over composition. Familiar motifs dissolve into expansive fields of marks, color, and shifting space, where representation and abstraction remain in constant dialogue.

Kaplan embraces accident as much as intention, building each painting through improvisation and sustained engagement with the canvas. Interested in the tension between control and surrender, he allows every mark to reshape the possibilities of the next. His paintings are not the realization of preconceived images but the result of an ongoing negotiation with the material, where revisions remain visible and each surface bears the history of its making.
