Merrick Adams (b. 1992, MFA Rhode Island School of Design) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Originally from Virginia Beach, his 'Ocean Series' conjures abstractions of light through a merging of craft, nature and family history. The series creates an immersive and monumental, yet subversive visual experience for the viewer with its unique focus on ecology. 

Visceral moments of pause and contemplation remain present as we are guided to observe the meditative quality that blends painting and printmaking techniques akin to woodcut and silkscreen, utilizing netting as a nod to his fisherman father on the coast of Virginia. Fine layers of pattern and subtle texture dissolve into waves and currents as recognizable depictions of moon or sun light reflected in the surface of the ocean. Drawing unexpected and thought-provoking curatorial connections, Merrick's work highlights a unique diversity in materiality and approach that invites visitors into an intimate dialogue with his artistic vision tracing scenes which map out both personal and collective memory.
