Scott Marvel Cassidy (born West Chester, Pennsylvania) is a Los Angeles-based painter whose work explores anxiety, depression, and the uncanny through obsessive detail and meditative awareness. Trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, his paintings — rendered directly from life — achieve a striking verisimilitude tempered by a subtly askew subjectivity.

Cassidy's easel-sized oil paintings (still lifes, portraits, domestic interiors, and landscapes) draw on the traditions of Northern Renaissance painting while feeling unmistakably contemporary. Cinematic cropping, offhand gestures, and fleeting expressions suggest photographic source material, yet Cassidy abandoned working from photographs over a decade ago.
