BRIAN LOTTI Birthday Moons, 2025, 58 x 94”, Oil on linen.

Brian Lotti's Nightfalls is the artist’s first solo show at La Loma. The paintings are urban nocturnes, mysterious and fragmentary.

Lotti’s paintings are meditations on the liquid Ambien haze of the city at night. He renders Los Angeles, and friends, in soft neon blur: the sodium burn of apartment windows, streetlights, lovers in recline. These are scenes of quiet erosion. People dissolve into the reservoir and the glowing hillsides behind them.

The city after hours, in Lotti’s hand, refuses to cohere. The Capitol Records Building juts through smog; the Hollywood Hills flatten into silhouette. These paintings conjure Ernst Kirchner's urban elongations, but this is not early modern Berlin. LA’s unholy mixture of the urban and suburban, the infinitely recursive nature of its neighborhoods, is here quietly rendered and cherished. Lotti's  surfaces  preserve  the  night's–and  Los Angeles’s–refusal to be fully known.
